Andrew W. Bell is a historian of American global engagements in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His research interests revolve around the intersections of culture, politics, empire, science, and the environment. He received his M.A. from Purdue University and his Ph.D. from Boston University.

For the 2022-23 academic year, Professor Bell is offering four courses. In the fall, he is teaching HIST 156: US and the World, 1756-1898, and HIST 332: Beyond Indiana Jones: The History, Politics, and Culture of Global Archaeology. In the spring, he is offering HIST 157: US and the World, 1898 to the Present, and HIST 333: American Empire.

Prior to joining the History Faculty at Amherst College as a Visiting Assistant Professor, Professor Bell held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions postdoctoral fellowship, researching the economic and ecological consequences of American involvement in the reforestation of Western Europe after the First World War, at Sciences Po in Paris. Before that, he served as a lecturer and affiliated faculty member at Boston University and Emerson College.
