What is City Streets Festival?

Established in April 2013, City Streets is an opportunity for students to celebrate international heritage, culture and food from around the world.

Please note that this year's festival is limited to Amherst College students due to venue limitations. 

This event is sponsored by the Office of the President.

A highlight of City Streets Festival is the opportunity to sample cuisine from around the world. The menu varies from year to year. This year's menu includes:

Greece (provided by Dining Services)

  • Chicken Souvlaki — A popular Greek dish consisting of marinated chicken that is grilled and served in a pita with red onion, lettuce and tomato
  • Tempeh Souvlaki (Vegan) — A popular Greek dish consisting of marinated tempeh that is grilled and served in a pita with red onion, lettuce and tomato
  • Tzatziki (Vegetarian) — Savory yogurt sauce with cucumber, dill, garlic and lemon
  • Loukoumades — Greek style donuts served with honey and cinnamon
  • Spanakopita (Vegetarian) — Greek savory pastry made with phyllo dough, spinach, feta cheese, lemon and herbs.

Japan (provided by Dining Services)

  • Takoyaki — Crispy Octopus fritter with kewpie mayo, takoyaki sauce and shredded nori
  • Yakisoba — Traditional stir fried noodle dish with soba-wheat noodles, napa cabbage, onions, carrots, bean sprouts with a sweet and savory sauce.
  • Sushi
    • Shrimp Tempura Roll
    • Sweet Potato Roll (Vegan)
  • Green Tea Matcha Cookies

Cuba (provided by Dining Services)

  • Pan con lechón — Roasted Pork sandwich with butter, onions and mojo sauce
  • Tostones (Vegan) — Thick sliced green plantains deep fried and flattened, then fried again. Served with cilantro lime crema or mojo sauce
  • Flan Cubano — Cuban baked custard with caramel sauce
  • Guarapo de Cana — Signature Cuba Street sugar cane juice beverage

Southwestern US (provided by Dining Services)

  • Chimichangas — Deep fried burritos served with avocado sauce
    • Cantina Chicken, Onions and Cheese
    • Black bean, zucchini, tomato, rice, vegan cheese and green chiles (Vegetarian)
  • Pozole (Vegan) spin on a traditional soup with tomato, hominy and garlic
  • Tamales
    • Beef
    • Black Bean (Vegan)

Africa (provided by Suya Joint: Boston, MA)

  • Jollof pasta, plantains and stewed goat
  • Jollof pasta, grilled chicken wings and mixed vegetables
  • Jollof pasta, plantains and vegetable samosas (Vegetarian)

Middle East (provided by Holyoke Hummus Company: Holyoke, MA)

  • Fresh hummus with pita chips (Vegan)
  • Fresh hummus with carrots (Vegan/Gluten Free)
  • Falafsicle (Vegan/Gluten Free) — Freshly fried falafel balls on a skewer with a squirt of tahini sauce

      Sri Lanka (provided by Island Spice Food Truck: Chicopee, MA)

      • Chicken Kotthu — Chopped paratha roti and chicken tossed in curry, and mixed with carrots, leeks, onion, scallions, and southeast Asian spices
      • Potato Curry Bowl (Vegan/Gluten Free) — Soft potatoes cooked in a mix of southeast asian spices mixed together in an aromatic coconut milk curry, atop a bed of white rice
