Updated 8/5/22

Amherst College continues to track individual reported cases of COVID-19 on our campus, however, we are no longer contact tracing for close contacts. If you test postiive for COVID-19, you are asked to reach out to anyone with whom you have recently had close contact and encourage them to watch themselves for symptoms and to get tested if they feel symptomatic.

What to do if you are identified as a close contact:

Students

  • If you’re informed that you’re a close contact and you’re vaccinated, you should watch for symptoms; please get a PCR test if you have any symptoms and contact Health Services. If you are a student-athlete, please notify Maria Rello (mnrello@amherst.edu) and your coach.
  • If you’re unvaccinated and find out you’re a close contact, please seek advice from Student Health Services.

Employees

  • If you are up-to-date on your vaccinations and become aware you are a close contact of someone having COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine. You should watch for symptoms and get PCR tested immediately if you feel symptomatic.
  • If you are up-to-date on your vaccinations and live with and are unable to separate from a person having COVID-19, you do not need to quarantine but should test if you experience any symptoms.
  • If you are not up-to-date on your vaccinations and become aware that you are a close contact of someone having COVID-19, you should email covidtesting@amherst.edu with a summary of your situation and the best phone number to reach you at.
  • If you are a caregiver (e.g. guardian) of someone having COVID-19 and will be tending to them while they have COVID-19, you should email covidtesting@amherst.edu with a summary of your situation and the best phone number to reach you at.
