The Amherst College Theater and Dance Department is proud to present its production of Adam Guettel’s Myths and Hymns February 16, 17, and 18 at 8pm in the Holden Theater on the Amherst College campus.

Guettel, the composer of the musicals Floyd Collins and the Tony-award winning Light in the Piazza, premiered Myths and Hymns under the title “Saturn Returns” in 1998 at the Public Theater in New York City. Called “majestic” by the New York Times, the 75-minute show is a kaleidoscopic cycle of songs expressing spiritual yearning, failure, and transcendence. An ensemble of eight talented student actor-singers journey a stunning variety of musical styles, as they delve into riddles from ancient Greek myth to contemporary Christianity. Director Ron Bashford, is joined by New York based guest artists Yan Li on musical direction, Matthew Richards for the lighting design, and Nora Smith design costumes. Amherst’s own Jeff Bird is creating the scenic environment.
