THEATER & DANCE STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Department of Theater and Dance offers the following student employment and work-study opportunities. Position availability will vary each semester.


Costume Shop Assistant

Costume Shop Assistants help with building costumes for our production season. Experience preferred. Please contact Carla Froeberg for more information.


Front of House - Ushers and Box Office 

Box office attendents and ushers manage the front of house for performances. Night and weekend availability is required, generally on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Contact Suzie Rivers at srivers@amherst.edu for more information.


Office Assistant

Help our department office with administrative tasks, such as copying, mailings, distributing publicity materials, checking box office reservations, customer service, and any additional tasks as needed. Shifts available Monday through Friday, 12-2 pm and 2-4 pm. Students generally work between 2-10 total hours per week, based on availability and department need. POSTER DESIGNER

Create posters and publiicty materials for department shows. Previous graphic design experience and the ability to work independently within set deadlines is preferred. Contact Suzie Rivers at srivers@amherst.edu for more information.


Theater Technician

Student workers in the scene shop assist in all areas of production for the Department's academic season. Tasks include set and prop construction, carpentry, welding, painting, hanging and focusing lighting fixtures, as well as preparation and maintenance of performance spaces. Lifting and carrying, as well as some degree of messiness should be expected. No experience is necessary, extensive training is provided. We will also train workers in the use of light and sound boards. Work study students are often hired to crew productions based on their individual interests and availability. Shifts available Monday through Friday, 9 am-12 pm and 1-4 pm. Generally two, 3 hour shifts per week, for a total of 6 hours per week.
