Masterclass with guest artist, Gierre Godley, sponsored by the Groove Fund
The Groove Fund (TGF) supports performing arts in the Department of Theater and Dance. The many initiatives and programs in the department provide Amherst students with truly unique on-campus experiences. Each year, the The Groove Fund will support a limited number of projects that each fulfill at least one of the following goals:
- provide additional resources to enhance student performance projects;
- support a guest faculty member and guest artist program;
- develop unique summer internship programs for Department of Theater and Dance majors; and
- fund future Department of Theater and Dance facility improvements and expansion projects.
How it Works
The fund supports selected projects at the discretion of the chair of theater and dance, in consultation with the department faculty.

About
The Groove Fund was created in 2016 by Matt Popoli ’98 and Paula Popoli to promote the study of dance, theater and the humanities, and to encourage Amherst students to “unplug” from our technology-obsessed culture. For nearly 200 years, Amherst has promoted the value of a liberal arts education in which no single area of study is more important or valuable than another. The College’s open curriculum is one of the boldest and most productive initiatives in higher education and encourages students to pursue wide interests and cross-disciplinary study.
The Groove Fund derives its name from the colloquial meaning of the word groove, echoing the rhythmic quality of music, dance and theater that is emotionally communicative and soulful. Groove is the celebration of movement as an art form.
